Reopen end user licence agreement

1. What you get

Reopen is free to use for thirty days from the day you first run it. After that it stops converting until you buy it. On a Mac, Reopen is a free download from the Mac App Store and you buy it once, inside the app, as an in-app purchase; if you have already bought it, Restore Purchases in the app finds it.

What stopping does not touch, deliberately: every file Reopen has already converted is yours and stays exactly where it was written. Reopen never alters or deletes the PDFs you give it, and a payment must never stand between you and your own documents.

2. Your licence

You buy Reopen once, from the Microsoft Store or the Mac App Store, and the store holds your licence. On Windows it belongs to your Microsoft account; on macOS, to your Apple ID. There is no licence key, no activation, no account with us and no server of ours involved at any point. Reopen is not sold anywhere else.

3. Updates

Your purchase includes twelve months of updates to this major version of Reopen. A future major version is a separate purchase, and buying it is never required: the version you bought keeps working, and keeps converting, for as long as you have it.

This clause could not have been added later. Once a copy had sold under an agreement silent on the update boundary, narrowing it afterwards would change a deal a buyer already took.

4. Your documents

Reopen works only on your machine. It reads the PDFs you point it at and writes the Excel and Word files it makes into the folder you choose. Nothing is uploaded, there is no account, no backend, no telemetry and no analytics.

The documents you convert and the files Reopen produces from them are yours. We do not receive them, store them, or claim any right in them.

Reopen’s window is drawn using Microsoft’s WebView2, a Windows component we do not ship and do not control, which has its own update and diagnostics behaviour governed by Microsoft. We describe what Reopen does rather than making a promise about your whole machine.

5. What the tie-out check is, and what it is not

Reopen compares what it extracted against what your PDF printed - each column against its own printed total, and a statement against its opening and closing balance - and reports the result on every conversion.

TIE means the two figures agree. MISMATCH means they do not, and it does not say why: either the extraction missed something or the document’s own total is wrong, and Reopen shows you both figures rather than deciding which. UNCHECKED means the source printed nothing to check against, so nothing was verified; it is not a pass.

This is a check, not an opinion on your document. It is not an audit, a review, or any form of assurance, and it certifies nothing about the document or the figures in it. Reopen does not do optical character recognition, and where a PDF has no text layer it writes no file at all and says so rather than producing an empty one.

6. What you may not do

Redistribute Reopen as part of another product, or work around the thirty-day limit. There is no licence key to share, because there is no licence key.

7. Refunds

Refunds are handled by the store you bought Reopen from, under that store’s own policy. Reopen is sold nowhere else, so there is no separate refund route and the studio offers none of its own.

8. No warranty, and what that means here

Reopen is provided as is. It converts documents and reports whether its own arithmetic agrees with theirs; it is not a backup, not an audit, and not a substitute for reading the result. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid for Reopen.

9. Ending it

You may stop using Reopen at any time. We may end this licence if you breach clause 6. Every file Reopen has already written stays exactly where it is and remains yours either way.

10. Law

This agreement is governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates. If you bought Reopen as a consumer, nothing here affects any rights you have under the mandatory law of your own country.
